Strong hitting propels NSU to doubleheader sweep over Orediggers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -  Impressive hitting by the Nova Southeastern softball team secured the Sunday sweep over the Colorado School of Mines at the NSU Softball Stadium. A seven-run second inning propelled the Sharks to victory in game one. Tierani Teslow then earned her first collegiate win in game two to help complete the doubleheader sweep.

  How it Happened

BOT 2nd – Gianna Russo picked up where she left off from yesterday, hitting a home run to left field to put NSU ahead 1-0. The run barrage continued as RBIs from Tori Copeland, Cassidy Patterson, Brenna Lokeinsky, Aubrey Hutzler (2), and Brianna Matthews gave the Sharks a commanding 7-0 lead.  

TOP 4th – The Orediggers ended their scoring drought with an RBI single to center field.  

BOT 4th – Russo earned her second RBI of the night with a single to the pitcher. Shortly after, RBIs from Copeland and Margolis put NSU ahead 10-1. 

TOP 5th – CSM tacked on two more runs to cut their deficit to six runs. 

BOT 6th – Erin McGlothlin and Cassidy Duskin added two more RBIs to the Sharks run count, ultimately securing the 12-4 victory for NSU in run-rule fashion.

How it Happened

TOP 1st - The Orediggers struck first, taking the early 1-0 lead.

BOT 1st - With two runners on base, Lauren Margolis batted in both runners to put NSU ahead 2-1.

TOP 2nd - CSUM scored three runs to take a two-run advantage.

BOT 2nd - NSU would answer with a slew of runs to go up 6-4.

BOT 3rd - Lokeinsky continued her impressive play with another RBI to tack on another run for the Sharks.

TOP 5th - The Orediggers continued to fight, putting two more runs on the board to bring themselves to a one-run deficit.

BOT 5th - Cassidy Duskin brought home Maliyah Lawson to put NSU's eighth run on the board.

BOT 6th - The Sharks tacked on two runs thanks to RBIs from Margolis and Copeland.

Nova Southeastern would secure the 10-6 victory over the Orediggers, completing the doubleheader sweep.
