2024-25 NSU Athletics Year in Review

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The 2024-25 athletic year marked another successful season for the Nova Southeastern University Department of Athletics. NSU earned the department's third consecutive top 10 finish in the Learfield Director's Cup, as 12 programs qualified for NCAA postseason. The Sharks accumulated four Sunshine State Conference Championships – Women's Cross Country, Men's Basketball (regular season and tournament), and Women's Golf – winning two NCAA Division II National Championships – Women's Swimming and Men's Basketball, bringing the department total to 15, in addition to 23 student-athletes being recognized as All-Americans. Academically, Nova Southeastern student-athletes continue to raise the standard, achieving a departmental record 3.49 grade-point average during the winter semester.  

Athletics Department 

  • Placed ninth in the Learfield Directors' Cup, marking third consecutive top 10 finish

Men's Basketball 

  • Won the program's second NCAA Division II National Championship  
  • Set the NCAA Division II Record for consecutive home court victories 
    • 84 (February 15, 2020 -) 
  • Won the Sunshine State Conference Regular Season and tournament championships for the fourth consecutive season 
  • MJ Iraldi was recognized as the top player in NCAA Division II Men's Basketball 
    • Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year 
    • D2 CCA South Region Player of the Year 
    • D2 CCA National Player of the Year 
    • NABC National Player of the Year

Women's Swimming 

  • Won the program's third consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship 
  • Claimed three individual NCAA Division II national championships 
  • Recognized as a CSCAA Academic All-America Team 
  • Kristina Orban recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year 
    • Fifth in program history 
  • Head Coach Ben Hewitt named the Sunshine State Conference and CSCAA National Coach of the Year 
  • 10 student-athletes recognized with CSCAA All-American honors 
  • Seven student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams

Women's Tennis 

  • Advanced to the NCAA Division II national championship for the third consecutive season 
  • Began the season with 14 consecutive victories, best start in program history 
  • Kristyna Hranacova ended the season ranked as the second-best singles player in NCAA Division II 
  • Two student-athletes recognized with All-Sunshine State Conference honors 
  • Eight student-athletes named to Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll 

Women's Golf 

  • Won the Sunshine State Conference Championship 
    • Seventh in program history 
    • First since 2018 
  • Head Coach Heather Wall named the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year 
  • Claimed three tournament titles during the spring season, including two individual winners 
  • Qualified for the NCAA National Championship tournament for the third consecutive season 
  • Three student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams 
  • Eight student-athletes named to Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll 

Women's Cross Country 

  • Won the program's first Sunshine State Conference title 
  • Head Coach Jonathan Carter was recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year 
  • Jillian Thorning was named the Sunshine State Conference Female Runner of the Year 
  • Qualified for the NCAA National Championship for the first time since 2015 
  • Five student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams 
  • 19 student-athletes named to the Sunshine State Conference Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll 

Men's Swimming 

  • Qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet for the 15th consecutive year 
  • Six student-athletes recognized as CSCAA All-Americans 
  • Four student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams 
  • 12 student-athletes named to the Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll 

Softball 

  • Played inaugural season at the new NSU Softball Stadium 
  • Qualified to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season 
  • Six student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams 
  • 17 student-athletes named to Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll 

Volleyball 

Women's Soccer 

  • Qualified for NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year 
  • Alexa Bereczki was recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year 
    • Fourth in program history; First since 2017 
  • Four student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams 
  • 26 student-athletes named to the Sunshine State Conference Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll 

Men's Golf 

  • Qualified for the NCAA Tournament 
  • Three student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams 
  • Bruno Marques named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year  
    • Sixth in program history; First since 2022 
  • Bruno Marques qualified for the Tulum Championship of the Korn Ferry Tour

Women's Basketball 

  • Advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season 
  • Hired Heather Macy as the fourth head coach in program history 
  • Aubrey Stupp signed a professional contract to play for Gzira Athleta Birkirkara (Malta) 
  • Three student-athletes named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams

Men's Cross Country 

  • Qualified to the NCAA Regional Championship meet for the fourth consecutive year

Women's Track 

  • Jillian Thorning recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Distance Runner of the Year
