Sharks Split Day One at UAH Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Al. – The Nova Southeastern University Sharks Volleyball team began play at the UAH Invitational on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Spring Hill College. The Sharks were defeated in the evening by the University of Alabama-Huntsville in five sets.

How it Happened
GAME 1

- The first set opened with the Sharks down 5-0.
- The Sharks rallied to get within a point, trailing 9-8.
- A pair of scoring runs put the Badgers up 22-9.
- Caiden Largent and Taylor Stockman each tallied a point before the conclusion of the set.
- The Sharks and Badgers went back and forth to begin the second set, sitting 3-3 with kills from Erika Spankus and Taylor Stockman.
- The Sharks sparked a five-point run to lead 8-3 with points from Caiden Largent, Olivia Aniol, Brooke Spurgeon, and a pair from Taylor Stockman.
- The back-and-forth scoring continued with the score being tied at 11-11.
- A four-point run put the Sharks back in front, with kills by Olivia Aniol, Mackenzie Pryor, and Taylor Stockman.
- The Sharks found themselves down 24-22 following a late rally from the Badgers.
- Olivia Aniol sparked a four-point swing to take the second set 26-24.

GAME 2

In the Sharks' second match of the day, NSU took on the host Alabama-Huntsville Chargers
- The first set started with a quick 3-3 score, with the Sharks getting points from Taylor Stockman, Brantley Chippley, and Olivia Aniol.
- The Chargers took a 10-5 lead into the first Sharks' timeout.
- Cadien Largent, Taylor Stockman, and Brantley Chipley pulled the Sharks back within striking distance with the score at 14-11 in favor of the Chargers.
- The Chargers continued to hold the lead for the remainder of the first set.
- At the start of the second set the Sharks took a 5-3 lead with points from Brantley Chippley, Abbie Roth, Taylor Stockman, and Olivia Aniol.
- The two sides battled tightly through the beginning stages of the set, pulling the score to 10-9 for the Shark with points from Olivia Aniol, Taylor Stockman, and Brantley Chippley.
- The set was briefly tied at 10-10 before the Sharks went on an 11-3 run to pull away from the Chargers. Taylor Stockman tallied four points during the stretch.
- The Sharks secured the second set with a score of 25-17, kills coming from Taylor Stockman, Brantley Chippley, and Olivia Aniol.

-Down the stretch,Chipley and Stockman delivered kills to push NSU in front 23-22.
- Chipley closed the set with back-to-back kills, giving NSU the 25-22 win.
-NSU jumped ahead 3-1 with kills from Chipley, Stockman and Pryor.
-UAH battled back to tie it 6-6 before edging ahead 9-7.
-The Sharks answered with kills from Largent and Chipley to even it at 9-9.
-UAH surged in front 14-10, forcing a Sharks timeout.
-NSU fought off two match points with kills from Stockman and Chipley, closing to 14-13.
-A service error ended the rally, as the Chargers claimed the set 15-13 and the match.
