About the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
Nova Southeastern University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a student-led organization that serves as a liaison between all student-athletes and administrators by promoting active communication. The Committee is comprised of two representatives from each intercollegiate athletic program. The Committee meets on a monthly basis to provide insight and feedback on the student-athlete experience by identifying and discussing issues that directly affect student-athletes at the institutional, conference, and NCAA level.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Nova Southeastern University is to enhance the student-athlete overall experience by providing opportunities for all student-athletes, protecting student-athlete welfare, and promoting a positive student-athlete image. In addition, SAAC will assist in developing relationships and building a sense of unity among student-athletes, the NSU student body, and surrounding communities. SAAC strives to make every student-athlete's experience at NSU rewarding.
Responsibilities of SAAC Representatives
Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) are responsible for participating in the Division II legislation process, the annual Division II Management Council summit, and serving on various Division II Association-Wide Committees. In addition, SAAC members are responsible for reviewing and responding to issues raised by other student organizations on campus.
Members of SAAC are also responsible for, but are not limited to, the following:
- Generate a student-athlete voice at the institutional, local, conference, & NCAA Division II level
- Encourage academic and athletic excellence
- Maintain good sportsmanship
- Encourage student-athlete involvement on campus and within the community
- Disseminate NCAA legislation information to all student-athletes
- Organize and promote opportunities for service and community involvement
- Promote school spirit and shark pride
- Support fellow student-athletes in their pursuit of representing NSU, the SSC, and the NCAA
- Engage in leadership opportunities that foster academic, athletic, professional, and personal growth and development
- Participate in preparation for the yearly Athletic Awards Celebration
Role of SAAC Advisors
The advisors of the NSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee must be members of the NSU Athletics Staff and are responsible for, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist the E-Board officers in conducting SAAC meetings and events on and off campus
- Help foster growth and development of leadership skills for SAAC members
- Attend general SAAC and SAAC E-board meetings
- Be the liaison between the student-athletes, the coaching staff, and administrators
Standards
- Members must attend monthly meetings
- If a member needs to miss a meeting, there must be proper communication with SAAC advisors and SAAC president
- Members must be in good academic standing
- Members must be a positive representative of the department and their specific teams
- Members must uphold all department policies and procedures
**Members are subject to being removed from SAAC if they violate any of the above standards and any policies in the department and/or the student handbook, including a failed drug test**
