Academic Services

  • Academic Success Program
    • The Academic Success Program (ASP) for student-athletes is designed to provide academic support for team members of Nova Southeastern University's 16 sports programs and assist them in managing their academic responsibilities. This program is aimed to assist in the academic and social transition to NSU and provide one-on-one progress conferencing for selected student-athletes. Designed for first-year and transfer admits who are committed to developing their academic potential, as well as student-athletes who are in poor academic standing, the ASP provides individual support for achieving academic success at NSU. The focus is to help students identify the factors that contributed to their current academic standing and to develop the academic skills and behaviors that can contribute to future success at NSU. Based on evaluations and recommendations, student-athletes are taught new techniques geared toward academic success and/or are referred to appropriate academic support services.
  • Academic Monitoring & Grade Reporting
    • In an attempt to maintain and improve the standard of academic excellence for NSU student-athletes, academic progress reports are emailed to professors several times throughout each semester. Coaches and student-athletes are updated as the reports are received.
  • Athletic Academic Eligibility
    • All student-athletes are required to work closely with Academic Services to assure that they are meeting the standards set forth by the University, the NSU Athletic Department, and the NCAA. All athletes must maintain “good” academic standing, the appropriate number of earned credit hours, and continue working toward the completion of their degree. All student-athletes must fulfill the eligibility requirements in order to receive athletic financial aid and to compete in any NSU intercollegiate sport. Please be aware that the minimum GPA standards set forth by the NSU Athletic Department mirror those of the NCAA. However, there are also policies set forth by the University, which are detailed following the Athletic Academic Policy.
  • Travel Letters for Athletic Related Absences
    • Student-athletes will be provided a travel letter prior to the start of their season that details their athletic competition schedule and gives professors notice of potential absences. Student-athletes are expected to give these letters to all professors before their season begins. Student-athletes are responsible for reminding their professors when the date of absence approaches and must make appropriate arrangements for all missed classwork and exams missed due to competition prior to the actual absence taking place. An additional electronic notification to all professors concerning student-athletes’ absences due to competition will be sent out at least 72 hours prior to the date of absence. NCAA rules do not permit missed class for practice.
  • Athletic Study Hall Requirements
    • NSU provides student-athletes with a structured study hall environment designed to promote academic success and encourage positive time management habits. All new student-athletes (incoming freshmen and transfer students) will be required to participate in study hall to assist in their transition to NSU. After the first semester, study hall requirements will be determined by a student-athlete’s GPA using specific guidelines.
  • Laptop Loaner Program
    • Laptop computers are available for loan in the Academic Center. Laptops will be loaned to student-athletes for no more than one week at a time. Student-athletes are solely responsible for the loaned laptop and will be held financially responsible should damages occur or the laptop is lost or stolen. Should a technical problem occur while using the laptop, please notify an Athletic Academic Services staff member as soon as possible in order for the appropriate repairs to be made.
