Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (October 20, 2007) - Shurell Burton (Jr., Palm Bay, Fla.) became the Nova Southeastern women's soccer all-time leading career goals and points scorer, setting the two records on two separate goals as the Sharks (9-2-1, 4-1-1 SSC) defeated the Rollins Tars (7-7-1, 3-3-1) in a pivotal SSC and South Regional contest on Saturday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.
Burton's performance breaks records both previously held by Mandi Adams, who wore the NSU kit from 1997 to 2000.
Burton opened the scoring by taking a ball from Lauren Prow (Fr., Valparaiso, Ind.), shooting it over Rollins goalkeeper Stina Lykke Petersen and banging it in off the crossbar for the record-breaking goal and a 1-0 lead.
Rollins equalized in the 80th minute as Leah Hirsch took a loose ball at the top of the 18 and slotted it past NSU goalkeeper Sarah Glass (So., Melbourne, Fla.)
Six minutes later, Prow iced the game for the Sharks, taking a pass from Burton in the six-yard box and redirecting it in behind Petersen for her ninth goal of the season. Burton's assist gave her the all-time points record.
For the game, NSU outshot the Tars 13-7 while Rollins held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. The Tars also committed 17 fouls to the Sharks' seven. In addition, the Sharks were able to force the Tars into 13 offsides while NSU committed none.
