NSU Volleyball Sweeps Season Series Over Lynn With 3-2 Victory

Sharks Add Key Sunshine State Conference and South Region Win To Resume

Boca Raton, Fla. (October 26, 2007) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team rallied from a two games to none deficit to defeat Lynn University three games to two on the road in action on Friday evening. The Sharks fell 30-26 in game one and 30-28 in game two before winning game three 30-26, game four 30-28 and game five 15-13. The win improves NSU's record to 22-7 on the season, including 8-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. Lynn falls to 17-8, 3-6.

Nova Southeastern entered the match ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA Division II South Region poll while Lynn was ranked No. 7. The top eight teams in the final South Region poll advance to NCAA Division II post-season play.

Middle Blocker Melinda Gorman (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) paced the Sharks' offensive attack, slamming a team high 17 kills in the match. She was followed by opposite Aley Tallman (So., Wichita, Kan.) with 12, middle Emily Carle (Jr., Missouri City, Tex.) with 11, and outside Andrea Irarrazabal (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) with 10. Setter Valia Petrova (Jr., Sofia, Bulgaria) tallied 44 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Sharks were led by Gorman with a team high seven blocks and libero Kathleen Yony (Fr., Miami, Fla.) with 22 digs. Irarrazabal and Petrova had three blocks apiece while Tallman, Petrova, and defensive specialist Alison Kalish (So., Miami, Fla.) each recorded double figure dig totals with 18, 13, and 10 digs, respectively.

Daris Rodriguez had a team high 20 kills to lead Lynn.

The Sharks were barely out-hit in the match, posting a .126 attack percentage opposed by .128 for Lynn. NSU found a way to win even though the Fighting Knights posted five more kills, eight more assists, one more ace, 14 more digs and four more blocks.

The Sharks return home to face No. 1 nationally ranked University of Tampa at 4pm on Saturday, October 27th inside the University Center Arena.
