NSU Women's Soccer Tops Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-0

Three-goal second-half keys victory

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern University women's soccer team downed Palm Beach Atlantic 3-0 on Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex in what was the Sharks' first home game of the season. NSU, who has won its last eight home-openers, now improves to 4-1-0 on the season, while Palm Beach Atlantic falls to 2-2-0.

"I'm proud of the way the girls played, especially in the second half," said head coach Mike Goodrich. "We talked about making adjustments at halftime and they implemented those adjustments. It's a young bunch with a lot of enthusiasm and you can always build on enthusiasm."

All three of the Sharks' goals came in the second-half. Lindsey Nowland (So., Cape Coral, Fla.) opened up scoring, notching the first goal of her career in the 48th minute. As Fiorella Booth's (Jr., Miami, Fla.) corner kick deflected off the Sailfish defense, Nowland collected the loose ball and took a shot from six-yards out.

NSU took a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute. Kayla Webb's goal kick went directly to the feet of Danielle Granholm (Fr., Broomfield, Colo.), who ripped a one-time shot from 25 yards into the back of the goal.

In the 75th minute, Kesiah Wattley (Jr., Panama City, Panama) drew a foul deep just outside of the 18 yard box and near the endline on Palm Beach Alantic's defensive half. On the restart, Wattley's feed found the head of Elisa Cabot (Fr., Melbourne, Fla.) for NSU's third goal of the game.

Palm Beach Atlantic's best chance of the evening happened in the 84th minute as the Sailfish drew a foul inside the box, setting up Alivia McDaniel for a penalty kick. However, McDaniel's kick went wide.

NSU outshot the Sailfish 20-14, while Palm Beach Atlantic held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Sarah Glass (R-Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) made seven saves in goal en route to recording her fourth shutout of the season. Webb had four stops for the Sailfish.

NSU makes the quick trip to Boca Raton, Fla., on Saturday for a Sunshine State Conference game at Lynn. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
