Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Sept. 24, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's women's soccer team lost to Florida Southern 2-0 on Thursday night at the NSU Soccer Complex. The Sharks now fall to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Florida Southern moves to 5-4-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in the SSC.
"We fought the whole game, but we weren't able to finish," said head coach Mike Goodrich. "All credit to Florida Southern. We made several mental mistakes that cost us the game. However, we're going to learn from those mistakes and move on."
Both of the Moccasins' goals came in the second half. Princess Haley scored as she collected the rebound from Kerri-Ann Brown's shot in the 50th minute. Brown tallied the game's second goal in 80th minute as her shot just tucked inside the left goal post.
NSU had a several chances throughout the game. Fiorella Booth (Jr., Miami, Fla.) ripped a shot that went off the crossbar in the 30th minute. Then in the 54th minute, Booth drilled shot towards the right post that looked like it was going in, but Florida Southern's Martina Tangen Billings made a diving save.
The Sharks outshot Florida Southern 16-13 and also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sarah Glass (R-Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) made five saves, while Tangen Billings had nine stops.
NSU returns to action on Sunday when the Sharks host No. 2 West Florida at 1:30 p.m., at the NSU Soccer Complex.
