Miami Shores, Fla. (Sept. 8, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern  University women's soccer team opened Sunshine State Conference play  with a 2-0 victory over rival Barry at Buccaneer Field on Tuesday night.   With the win, NSU improves to 2-0-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in the  SSC.  Barry falls to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0- in the conference.
 "It was a great result and we are happy with it," said head coach Mike  Goodrich.  "It was our first conference game of the season and for a  majority of our team.  Playing away and at Barry, there are many  positives from the game.  However, there are still some things that we  need to work on just like everybody else."    
 NSU went up 1-0 in the 26th minute.  Aubrey Fondy (Fr., Arvada, Colo.)  dodged the Barry defense, but got fouled by Buccaneer goalkeeper Emily  Brunschweiler inside the 18-yard box to set up a Shark penalty kick.   Alexis Hernandez (Jr., Weston, Fla.) converted on the penalty kick,  blasting a shot into the lower right corner.    
 The Sharks took a two-goal lead in the 36th minute as a Hernandez cross  on the right side found the head of Kesiah Wattley (Jr., Centreville,  Va.).    
 Defensively, Sarah Glass (R-Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) had yet another  stellar performance in goal en route to recording her second-straight  shutout of the season.  Glass made a career-high 14 saves, including 10  in the second half.    
 "Sarah was steady in goal," said Goodrich.  "She showed the leadership  that we expect and did a good job."    
 The Buccaneers outshot the Sharks 21-12, but NSU held a 6-3 corner kick  advantage.      
 NSU returns to action this weekend with a two-game road swing to  Alabama.  The Sharks open the trip on Friday at the University of  Mobile.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
