Winter Park, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (5-7 overall, 2-3 SSC) dropped its conference game against the Rollins College Tars, 3-0, on Friday night in the Warden Arena.
“Rollins is a extremely well coached team that is well prepared day in and day out, said head coach Steve Wilcosky. “I think Rollins is starting to learn how good they are.”
Despite the loss, sophomore
Paige Boivin (So., Plainfield, Ill.) tied her career high in digs with 13 and setter
Jordan Pappas (So., Naperville, Ill.) recorded her first double-double with 23 assist and 10 digs.
“Jordan has been busting her butt and it showed in tonight's performance,” said Wilcosky. “We were working in practice all week to get her into better position to dig some balls. We just need to be more efficient after our digs.”
The Rollins Tars (10-4, 3-2 SSC) got off to a fast start but a kill by
Paola Ruiz (Sr., Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) from the back row, cut the lead to 4-2. The Sharks were unable to put together back-to-back points together in the first half of the first set. At 17-8,
Molly Sigerich (Jr., Downers Grove, Ill.) got a kill off the Tars' block but Rollins continue to side out to give them the advantage.
Wilcosky tried to slow down the Rollins attack with a timeout at 20-9, allowing NSU to cut the lead to 24-15, but Rollins was not willing to back down taking set one, 25-15.
The Sharks turned it around in the second set taking a 4-2 advantage.
Danielle Graham (So., Cincinnati, Ohio) slammed down a kill off the slide to give the Sharks back the lead at 6-5. Rollins would take its first lead of the set at 8-7 but an attack error would even it back up at eight.
Rollins would take a 12-10 lead but the Sharks would tie it up and even take the lead on a solo block by Sigerich.
The Tars would run away with the second set, 25-16, outhitting the Sharks, .215 to .000 only allowing NSU six kills in the frame while taking a 2-0 lead.
Ruiz took charge in the third set, throwing down a kill and serving up an ace to give the Sharks its first two points of the third set, but Rollins once again would fight back and take the lead.
At 21-13, the Sharks rallied for five straight points to pull within 21-18. The Tars put together four straight points to take the match, 3-0.
Despite Ruiz tallying 10 kills in the match, NSU dropped its third conference game.
The Sharks will look to rebound against Florida Southern tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Lakeland. The Moccasins will have live video streaming for all fans.
“Florida Southern is a good team and we need to rebound from today,” said Wilcosky. “We just need to go out there and put on a different pair of spandex for tomorrows match.”
