Women's Volleyball Sharks Back To SSC Play With Matchups Against Eckerd and Saint Leo

Volleyball Begins Second Half of Conference Play

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (7-12, 2-6 SSC) will pick back up with conference play battling Eckerd (6-13, 0-9 SSC) in St. Petersburg on Friday at 7 p.m. before squaring off against Saint Leo (10-9, 5-3 SSC) in St. Leo on Saturday at 4 p.m.

NSU is coming off a 2-1 weekend defeating Alabama-Huntsville (3-1) and West Georgia (3-0) but falling to host Valdosta State (3-1) in the Wingate by Wyndham Crossover Classic.

Junior Molly Sigerich (Downers Grove, Ill.) moved up two spots to fourth all-time on NSU’s career block list with 229, as she had 11 blocks over the weekend. Sophomore Jordan Pappas (Naperville, Ill.) became only the eighth Sharks player with over 1,000 assists in her career. Pappas sits fourth in conference play averaging 9.30 assists per set.

Junior Anabely Escarpita (Boca Raton, Fla.) hit .315 over the weekend raising her overall attack percentage by 30 points. Sophomore Danielle Graham (Cincinnati, Ohio) made a 43 point jump, who is now hitting a team high at .309.

Overall, senior libero Kathleen Yony (Miami, Fla.) ranks third in the SSC with 4.83 digs per frame.

NSU defeated Eckerd back on Sept. 18th in five sets in The Arena at the Don Taft University Center. Both Graham and junior Rachel Woodson (Rogers, Ark.) finished with a team-high 13 kills. Pappas dished 45 assists and Yony was outstanding registering over 30 digs with 32.

The Sharks and Tritons will meet for the 41st time, with NSU having the commanding lead on the series, 24-16.

Eckerd, who sits last in the SSC, recently got swept by No. 4 Tampa on Tuesday. Lindsay Biggs, Olivia Fraser and Alex Laton led the Tritons with six kills each.

The Sharks fell to Saint Leo on Sept. 17th in four sets at home. Escarpita had a team high 15 kills and Sigerich and Paola Ruiz (Sr., Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico) both added double-digits kills of their own with 11.

With the loss, the Lions cut the all-time series to an 18-16 Nova advantage.

The Lions, who currently are fifth in conference, swept Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday for their last match. Saint Leo hit .214 as a team, lead by Celeste Bonter, who was the only Lions in double-digits with 10 kills and 16 digs.
