Box Score

PENSACOLA, Fla. –
Nova Southeastern men’s soccer snapped a three-match win streak Saturday evening as they were defeated in out of conference play by the West Florida Argonauts, 1-0.

The first half was not easy on the eyes as both teams combined for 21 fouls in the period. The Sharks (7-5-2) were only credited with one shot in the period, a header by Simon Nett (Fr., Grimstad, Norway) in the 41st minute that sailed over the goal. However, the Sharks displayed their usual strong defense and held the Argos (10-4-2) to a single shot-on-goal.

The match heated up ten minutes into the second half as UWF put together a solid set of shots that came very close to scoring. Thanks to strong defense and fortunate Argo missed shots the match remained scoreless.

In the 61st minute, Aly Hassan (Sr., Weston, Fla.) gave NSU its best chance to score the first goal of the match when his header in the box was barely saved. He collected the rebound but it was quickly stolen by an Argo defender.

In the 65th minute, the Argos took a corner kick and were fouled inside the penalty box. UWF punched in the game-winning goal and the six penalty kick scored against the Sharks this year.

The Sharks had a solid opportunity to tie the match with three minutes remaining. Craig Heenighan (Sr., Widnes, England) took a free kick from 25 yards in front of the goal but his shot was saved. The Sharks also had a corner kick in the final minutes of the match but Alvin Quaye’s (Jr., East Ham, England) header went just wide.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lyle Howe (Coral Springs, Fla.) had a solid match despite giving up the penalty kick. He recorded six saves and did not allow a goal in the flow of play for the second straight match.

The Sharks will return home for their final match of the regular season as they take on Lynn Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
