#14 Women's Basketball Sharks Take On Metro State and Western State

Women's Basketball Head To Denver For Thanksgiving Classic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (4-0) will travel for the first time out of state to participate in the Metro State Thanksgiving Classic in Denver, Colo. on Nov. 26th and 27th.

With one more win, the Sharks will tie its best opening in a season since its inaugural season in 1998 when they opened 5-0.

The Sharks speared Palm Beach Atlantic with a 76-57 road win in its last game on Nov. 23rd.

Senior Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the charge scoring 19 points, adding six assists, six steals, four rebounds and two blocks. Tepe, the NSU career leader in steals, extended her total to 200.

Junior Jada Buckner (Loudon, Tenn.) and senior Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) added double-digit points with 15 and 13 respectively.

Beginning the game against PBA, the Sharks had its worst half of the season shooting 27 percent from the floor and trailed at half-t ime, 35-34. Coming out of the locker room, NSU quickly turned things around by going on a 9-0 run.

NSU shot over 50 percent from the floor in the second half for the first time this season and pulled out its first road win.

ABOUT METRO STATE
Metro State’s women’s basketball team topped Rocky Mountain (Mont.) 67-49 on Monday evening in Billings, Mont. The win was the second of the season for the Roadrunners. Metro State opened the 2010-11 season with a 49-46 win at Montana State-Billings.

In its last win, Tawny Drexler had a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Roadrunners, hitting 8-of-10 from the floor. Cassondra Bratton, who averages 12.5 points per game this season added 15 points and had seven rebounds, while Alyssa Benson scored 13 off the bench, hitting 6-of-9 from the floor.

Metro State shot 48.3 percent from the floor and hit 3-of-9 from the outside against Rocky Mountain. The Roadrunners also held a 46-28 rebounding advantage.

The Roadrunners will be playing its first home game this season.

This is the first meeting between the teams.

ABOUT WESTERN STATE
Western State also opened the 2010-11 season, 2-0, getting an overtime win over Cameron, 73-66, before rolling past Northern New Mexico, 65-27.

Brooke Pendergraft was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder with 21 and eight, respectively.

In game two, a new face was highlighted as Katie Hall recorded a double-double leading the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Pendergraft and Hall and Natalie Giese are all averaging double-digit points per game early in the season.
