PENSACOLA, Fla. (Feb 13, 2010) - The Nova Southeastern (3-1) softball team split its first two games of the West Florida Regional Crossover on Saturday. They took the first game against North Alabama, 9-3 but dropped the second game against West Florida, 4-1.
Lauren Lopez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Jessica Hernandez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) both had solid outings against North Alabama. Lopez was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Hernandez had a game high three RBI on 2-for-3 hitting.
Dani Caron (Sr., Wellington, Fla.) pitched 6 innings and earned her second win of the season. She allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out four batters. Devin Higginbotham (Jr., Palatka, Fla.) pitched the final inning in her second appearance and didn't allow a hit to close the game out.
Dana Bergner (Sr, Palm Harbor, Fla.) only had one hit against West Florida but she made it count. Bergner hit a home run past left center field on the first pitch she saw in the fifth, scoring NSU's only run of the game. Noemi Luciani (Sr., Miami, Fla.) was the only Shark to get two hits against the Argonauts.
Lexi Sarradet (Jr., Miami, Fla.) pitched well in her first loss of the season, but was outpitched by Jillian LaFrance. Sarradet only allowed two earned runs and struck out five batters, four of which were in succession.
The Sharks will return to the field tomorrow to finish the UWF Regional Crossover Tournament. They will face off against North Alabama at 11 am CT, immediately followed by a rematch against West Florida.
