Five Sharks Named to All-SSC Teams

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon that five Nova Southeastern softball student-athletes have been named to the SSC's All-Conference teams.

Abbey Moore, Gianna Russo, Destiny Lewis, Brianna Matthews and Ana Richiez each earned prestigious All-SSC honors.

"We could not be more thrilled for these five incredible student-athletes to be recognized by the conference," Nova Southeastern head softball coach Julie LeMaire said. "They have demonstrated immense dedication, grit and passion all year long. Their individual contributions have been the backbone of our success, and seeing their relentless work ethic rewarded with All-SSC honors is incredibly well-deserved."

Abbey Moore has been named to the All-SSC First Team after her spectacular season as the everyday catcher for the Sharks. Moore hit .223 on the season with five of her 29 base hits going for extra bases. Moore made the biggest impact defensively behind the plate completing 172 putouts with a season fielding percentage of .989.

Gianna Russo was named to the All-SSC Defensive Team for her efforts at second base. Russo made highlight reel play after highlight reel play with multiple diving catches, leaping grabs and tough throws to first. Russo made 112 putouts with 92 assists for a fielding percentage of .976.

Russo earns the award after also being honored as NSU Athletics' Comeback Player of the Year after returning from a season-ending injury in 2025.

Three student athletes were recognized as part of the All-SSC Second Team.

Destiny Lewis made headlines tying the NSU program record for single season home runs hitting 13 on the year, tying Laura Saladrigas season from 2012. In addition to the home runs, Lewis slugged .712 ranking in the top ten in both career and single-season slugging percentage. She added 12 doubles, four triples, and 48 RBI in her single season with the Sharks.

Brianna Matthews shined both offensively and defensively in left field hitting .325 with a team-leading on-base percentage of .422 and led the team in stolen bases with 19, more than triple the next closest Shark. In the field, Matthews had a fielding percentage of .976.

Ana Richiez emerged as a two-way threat early in the season pitching in 17 games, with 15 of those appearances being starts. She had a 3.19 ERA in 90.0 innings pitched while striking out 37 batters on the season. In the batter's box, Richiez hit .295 with nine doubles, a triple, and six home runs for 39 RBI on the season.

The Sharks ended the season on a seven-game winning streak, finishing with a record of 30-22 and a 16-14 mark in conference play.
