Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Mar. 17, 2010) The Nova Southeastern University baseball defeated Adelphi 7-6 in action at the NSU Baseball Complex on Wednesday evening. The win, NSU's second consecutive, improves its record to 11-14 while Adelphi falls to 5-3.
The Sharks fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and 6-2 after the third inning. They began their rally in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring on a wild pitch and on a RBI single by senior All-America right fielder Brayan Valencia (Pembroke Pines, Fla.).
Nova Southeastern overtook the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring three times on four hits and an Adelphi error. The big hit of the inning was a two-out, two RBI single by junior catcher Michael Hartley (Davie, Fla.). Left fielder Nikko Echevarria (So., Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia) also had a RBI hit in the inning.
The NSU bullpen held Adelphi scoreless over the final six innings. Sophomore Chris Hamper (Melbourne, Fla.) started the streak with a scoreless fourth inning. Junior Anthony Nalepa (Miami, Fla.) followed with four scoreless innings to earn the win, allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking none. Junior closer Sean Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) closed the door in the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
Senior second baseman Eric McCans (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had three hits for the second consecutive game. Five other Sharks also had multiple hits, including Hartley, who went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
NSU remains at home, hosting St. Michael's at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 18th at the NSU Baseball Complex.
