CARROLTON, Ga. (Mar. 5, 2010) - The No. 14 Nova Southeastern University softball team started off the West Georgia Wolves Invitational 2-0 Friday. The Sharks (15-5) took out the host team West Georgia, 10-2 in only five innings. They followed up with a victory over the Anderson Trojans, 9-2.
Just two days after moving up a spot in the NFCA Division II National Poll, the Sharks finished their season series with West Georgia and defeated them for the third time. Brittany Phillips (Jr., Seminole, Fla.), Brittney Lamb (Sr., West Palm Beach), Patty Rivero (Sr., Miami, Fla.), and Lauren Lopez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) all hit home runs against the Wolves. It was the first multiple home run game for the Sharks this season.
The Sharks later earned their second win of the day in the program's first ever meeting with Anderson. Lopez hit her second home run of the day against the Trojans. She now has a team-high five home runs on the season.
Laura Saladrigas (Fr. Hollywood, Fla.) made her pitching debut for the Sharks Friday. She pitched five innings against the Trojans and struck out six batters.
The 2-0 day creates the Sharks' second four-game win streak of the season. They have now won eight out of their last nine games.
NSU will continue the West Georgia Wolves Invitational Saturday when they take on Columbus State at 11:00 am. That game will be immediately followed by a game against West Alabama.
