Maggs Walk-Off Homer Earns Sharks 15th Consecutive Home Win

NSU Has Now Won 15 Of Their Last 16 Games

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Apr. 6, 2010)  First baseman Dusty Magg's walk-off home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning led the Nova Southeastern University baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Ave Maria in action at the NSU Baseball Complex on Tuesday evening. The win improves the Sharks record to 24-15 on the season while Ave Maria falls to 17-19.

Senior second baseman Eric McCans (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) got the Sharks started in the bottom of the first inning, driving in a run with a two out RBI double down the right field line. NSU added another run in the bottom of the third inning on junior catcher Haven FitzSimmonds' (Loxahatchee, Fla.) RBI double.

Starting pitcher Chris Hamper (So., Melbourne, Fla.) limited the Gyrenes to just three hits and no runs in six innings. Junior Torey Ekey (Merritt Island, Fla.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Ave Maria tied the game in the top of the eighth inning, scoring two runs on a walk and two hits off reliever Sean Tighe (So., Hobe Sound, Fla.).

Sharks junior first baseman Dusty Maggs (Satellite Beach, Fla.) led off the bottom of the ninth inning with an opposite field walk-off home run to give the Sharks the victory.

Tighe was credited with the victory, pitching two innings while allowing two runs. He improves to 3-1 on the season.

With the victory, NSU matches their 15 game home winning streak from a year ago. The Sharks have not lost on their home turf since March 5th.

The Sharks travel to Miami Shores, Fla. to begin a three game Sunshine State Conference series at Barry on Friday, April 9th at 6pm.
