BOCA RATON, Fla. (May 1, 2010) - The Nova Southeastern softball team (45-15, 19-5 SSC) finished its season Saturday afternoon with a road victory over the Lynn Fighting Knights (24-31, 7-17 SSC), 11-2.
Laura Saladrigas (Fr., Hollywood, Fla.) led the way offensively, hitting 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Lauren Lopez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Rachel Talenfeld (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) both hit 2-for-4 with multiple runs scored.
The Sharks started the game off with a run in both of the first two innings. In the opening frame, Lopez earned her team's first hit of the contest and advanced home on Jessica Hernandez's (Sr., Miami, Fla.) double to right center field.
Saladrigas led off the second with an infield single off the first baseman's glove. She would score by advancing off a sacrifice hit and two singles from Dana Bergner (Sr., Palm Harbor, Fla.), Brittney Lamb (Sr., West Palm Beach, Fla.), and Erica Barrabi (So., Sunrise, Fla.).
As they have done all weekend, the Sharks took advantage of the Fighting Knights' mistakes by scoring seven runs on three hits, three errors, and two fielder's choice. Noemi Luciani (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Saladrigas both had multiple RBI hits in the frame. Talenfeld and Barrabi also tallied RBI singles in the third.
The Fighting Knights answered back with two runs in the third inning but the Sharks wrapped up the game with two of their own in the sixth and final inning. Talenfeld and Lopez both reached on singles with an out on the board. Talenfeld would score on a wild pitch while Lopez came home on Bergner's single up the middle.
Lexi Sarradet (Jr., Miami, Fla.) had the run support she needed and held the Fighting Knights at bay to pick up her 12th win of the season. She did not allow an earned run over a complete game and struck out five batters.
Currently ranked seventh in the South Region, the Sharks will now wait until May 10 to see if they are selected to compete in the NCAA South Regionals, which would begin May 14.
