Volleyball to Take on SSC Foe Saint Leo Tuesday

Sharks look to avenge early season loss to the Lions.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team (4-15, 1-7 SSC) will head out on the road Tuesday for a Sunshine State Conference match at Saint Leo (10-10, 3-5 SSC). First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

The Sharks will be looking to bounce back after a deflating loss at Palm Beach Atlantic last Wednesday. NSU’s last conference was back on Oct. 8 when Tampa visited NSU Arena and the Bucs came away with a 3-0 victory.

The Lions and the Sharks met earlier this season, Sept. 13, in Fort Lauderdale. Despite a 15-kill breakout performance from Lauren Lewkowicz (Fr., Coral Spings, Fla.) the Sharks fell in four set, 3-1, to the Lions.

Lewkowicz is currently averaging 1.48 kills per set, good for third on the Sharks, trailing only Anabely Escarpita (2.64) and Danielle Graham (2.57). Graham is also second on the team with 51 total blocks this season, three behind Molly Sigerich (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.).

Saint Leo enter Tuesday match with a .500 record after winning two out of three contests at the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover tournament over the weekend. The Lions dropped their opening match to West Florida, but went on to knock off Valdosta State and Alabama-Huntsville.

Danielle Bletso leads the Lions offense with a 3.24 kills per set average, while Suzie Solenski (2.20) and Emily Calderon-Reyes (2.16) both add over two kills per set. Saint Leo has had a good deal of success from behind the service line this season with Alexa Reed notching 33 aces and Jaclyn Mailoto contributing 22.

Although the Lions have captured the past three meetings between the schools, the all-time series is knotted at 18-18.
