FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
With post-season play in its sights, the Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (9-3-2, 3-2-2 SSC) will honor and reflect on the careers of five seniors before battling Tampa (8-4-2, 2-2-1 SSC) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The game against Tampa will conclude the regular season for the Sharks and a win will clinch a position in the Sunshine State Conference Championship tournament. The Sharks are currently in third-place in the SSC with 11 conference points.

Teams receive three points per SSC win and one per SSC tie. The top-six teams in the final SSC standings earn a bid to the SSC Championship. Fourth-place Lynn has nine SSC points with two conference games remaining, while Tampa, Florida Tech and Florida Southern are tied for fifth-place with seven SSC points. Tampa has three conference games remaining, Florida Tech has two and Florida Southern has one SSC game left on their schedule.

Saint Leo and Rollins sit atop the SSC standings with 16 and 15 SSC points, respectively. Both have two SSC games remaining this season.

The Sharks enter the contest with Tampa after defeating No. 21 Florida Tech, 1-0. Prior to the match, FIT debuted third and the Sharks debuted fourth in the NCAA Division II south region poll. Ranked sixth in the south region poll, Tampa defeated Barry 3-1 in their previous game.

The Sharks are 2-10-1 all-time against the Spartans after splitting the two games a season ago. Chrissy Hy (Sr., Weston, Fla.) started in goal and was credited with the 1-0 win for the Sharks during the first game. During the second matchup, Tampa avenged their loss by defeating the Sharks, 2-0, in the semi-final round of the 2010 SSC Championship.

The five Sharks to be recognized during the pregame ceremony include; Shanoska Young (Kingston, Jamaica), Rachael Reid (Indianapolis, Ind.) Lindsey Nowland (Cape Coral, Fla.), Sarah Wareham (Davie, Fla.) and Hy. During their careers they have recorded a combined 13,571:24 minutes, netted 15 goals, two game-winners, and 14 assists as Sharks.

Nowland was the first of the bunch to start a game for the Sharks, playing 90 minutes in the season opener Aug. 29, 2008, a 3-0 win over Tusculum. Since Nowland’s first start the Sharks are 32-21-7.

Hy made her first start in goal for the Sharks Oct. 21, 2008, in a 3-1 win over Eckerd. She recorded her first complete game, allowed one goal and made four saves. She notched her first collegiate career shutout along with eight saves the following game in a 1-0 victory over Northwood. Hy has a career record in goal of 16-8-1, with nine shutouts and has collected 103 saves in 28 games played.

Reid transferred from UNLV and started all 16 games her first season as a Shark in 2010. She was a part of a defensive line that shutout seven teams, two short of the NSU record. She scored her first goal as a Shark Sept. 14, 2011 in a 9-0 rout of Johnson and Wales.

Wareham played one season at Florida Atlantic before joining the Sharks in 2009. That season she scored her first of five career goals Sept. 27, 2009, against No. 2 West Florida.

Young transferred from St. Thomas and netted her first goal for the Sharks against West Florida also, Sept. 3, 2010. She would score six more goals during her career and tally four assists.
