FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (26-13) will look to take the season-series lead against the Barry Buccaneers (30-12) in the final game between the two in Miami Shores, Fla. on Tuesday, April 19 at 6 p.m.

The Sharks are tied with Barry on the season at 2-2. The Sharks took the only out-of-conference game between the two so far as Barry owns the winning record in conference play. Despite the three-game difference in the conference standings, the four games between the two teams have proven that this is anyone’s series to win.

The first game was very early in the season as both teams were just starting to gel. The Sharks took a back and forth game in which the Sharks entered the ninth inning down by two only to score four runs with two outs on the board. It was Areo Regoli’s (Jr., Homestead, Fla.) break out game in only his fifth outing with the Sharks. Regoli hit his first career-grand slam in the third before driving in the go-ahead run in the ninth. The victory put the Sharks at 5-0 for the first time in program history.

Barry would exact their revenge two months later when the Bucs drove up to Fort Lauderdale for a three-game weekend series. The first game, which pitted aces Isaac Hicks (Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and Barry’s Manny Rodriguez, was an epic 13-inning game that the Bucs won, 4-3. The Sharks had their chances to take the game and even had the game-winning run called out at the plate twice. The go-ahead run in top of the 13th inning came from Barry’s Harold Holness who scored on Drew Dwelly’s RBI single through the left side. The Sharks had the tying run on second base but the runner, Nikko Echevarria (Jr., Abqaib, Saudi Arabia), was forced out at third to end the game.

The Bucs pounced on the Sharks in the next game as they won, 8-4, to take the weekend series. The Sharks seemed to be down for the count but bounced back in the backend of a doubleheader, 11-1. Sean Tighe (Jr., Hobe Sound, Fla.) put the Sharks on his back as he as he threw a 7-inning complete game four-hitter. The Sharks supported Tighe with a consistent offense, scoring in six out of seven innings.

The Sharks need a win Tuesday as taking a season series victory over Barry will vastly improve their chances of making the NCAA South Regionals in May. This game ranks among the critical matchups left in the season alongside the upcoming weekend series against Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Southern.
