BOX SCORE
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.– The Nova Southeastern University softball team (29-18, 7-12 SSC) has no issues getting past the Lynn Fighting Knights (10-35, 5-14 SSC) as the Sharks romped the visitors from Boca Raton, Fla., 9-0, in five innings Thursday evening at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
Senior
Lexi Sarradet (Miami, Fla.) earned her 12th win of the season and tied the all-time win record with NSU Hall of Famer Jennifer Ridenoure, who set the record back in 2002 at 69.
The righty hurled her second straight two-hitter, while striking out seven and not allowing a walk.
Junior
Sara DeMuth (Plant City, Fla.) had the hot bat of the game, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, driving in two runs.
Sophomore
Laura Saladrigas (Hollywood, Fla.) drove in three runs to up her total to 46 for the season. The Sharks left fielder also extended her hit streak to eight games.
The Sharks scored first for the fourth straight game as Saladrigas tripled to right field, plating Kelton who led off the inning with a walk.
It wasn’t until the second inning that the Shark bats came alive. Phillips started the frame with a single to right field. Freshman
Dani Millan (Ventura, Calif.) followed with a single up the middle. DeMuth then roped a hard shot down the left field line, bringing around Phillips and Millan to score.
Raimo kept the rally going with no outs as she reached on an error. Senior
Rachel Talenfeld (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also reached on a Fighting Knight error, which brought up the heart of the Sharks lineup. Saladrigas made the Knights pay for their mistakes, driving home two more runs. Cleanup batter
Gina Bondarenko (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) drove in the Sharks final run of the inning with NSU’s fifth hit of the frame.
The Sharks loaded the bases in the third as DeMuth doubled, Raimo singled and
Gianni Artidiello (Fr., Miami, Fla.) singled. Kelton drove in a run with a bloop single and the Sharks scored another run off another Lynn error.
Sarradet (12-4) held the Fighting Knights hitless through three, but a check swing blooped into right field to break up the no-hitter. The Knights only other hit came on an infield single in the fourth.
NSU and Lynn continue the series tomorrow, April 22 as the Sharks will honor its five seniors; Sarradet, Talenfeld, Phillips,
Devin Higginbotham (Palatka, Fla.) and
Sarah Hart (Newburgh, Ind.). The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 5 p.m., with senior festivities happening after the conclusion of game one.
In addition to the activities during the game, the softball team will also be honored at a pep rally in the University Center from 12-1 p.m.
