FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (29-14, 13-5 SSC) enters its second-to-last Sunshine State Conference series of the season as they Sharks face the No. 13 Florida Southern Mocs (27-11, 11-4 SSC) at the NSU Baseball Complex this weekend. The series will begin Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m. with a doubleheader following on Friday, April 29 at noon.

Both games will be unique for fans that attend the ballpark and those who enjoy the game on NSUSharks.com. Thursday night’s game will be held on senior night as the game will be preceded by a ceremony honoring 16 athletes that will be playing in their final series at the NSU Baseball Complex. The Sharks will also be working with the Make a Wish Foundation Thursday by giving a child with a life-threatening illness a chance to practice with the team and throw the first pitch.

During Friday’s doubleheader, Shark fans following the games on NSUSharks.com will have a chance to watch the game through NSUSharks.com’s new multi-camera live streaming video. Fans will get a chance to follow the Sharks closer than ever before as NSU attempts to win the SSC Championship and advance to the NCAA South Regionals.

The Sharks enter the series after being ranked fifth in the South Region for the second straight week. The Sharks have won seven of their last eight games as they swept Saint Leo in a conference series, defeated Barry on the road, and took two games out of three against Palm Beach Atlantic. The Sharks rank behind West Florida, North Alabama, Barry and Southern Arkansas.

Last weekend, Barry lost a series against Rollins while Florida Southern dropped two games to Tampa. These two upsets made it possible for the Sharks to make a run at the SSC title. In order to accomplish that goal, NSU will need to sweep their nationally ranked opponent. If the Sharks win their last six games and Barry drops just one game to Lynn, the Sharks will tie the Bucs for the conference title.

History will be play against NSU this weekend as the Sharks have not fared well against the Mocs in the past. NSU is 15-34 all time against Florida Southern and the Sharks have lost five of six conference series against them since joining the SSC. In 2008, the Sharks took the conference series against the Mocs with a pair of close victories, 11-9 and 4-3.

A successful series will also help the team reach milestones they are destined to reach before the postseason begins. The Sharks need one more victory to reach 30 wins for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. Under former head coach and current athletic director Mike Mominey, the Sharks have been 30-game winners in all but one season since leaving the NAIA’s Florida Sun Conference. One more win will give head coach Greg Brown a chance to continue NSU Baseball’s winning tradition.

Most importantly, a sweep of the Mocs will give the Sharks a program-record 16 SSC victories. If the Sharks pick up the sweep it will mark the second-straight year the team will have broken the record. In 2010, NSU finished with a program-best 15-9 record and won all of its SSC home games.
