FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern women’s volleyball team (4-20, 1-7 SSC) hit the road this weekend to take on the Florida Tech Panthers (14-7, 4-5 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference action Saturday, Oct. 27 in Melbourne, Fla. at 4 p.m.
The Sharks are coming off a tournament weekend, hosting the Regional Crossover and felling short to three different opponents. NSU opened up with a very tight 3-2 loss to West Alabama and later fell to North Alabama, 1-3, and Palm Beach Atlantic, 0-3, in the second day of competition.
In the first day
Tory Njardvik (Fr., Livingston, Mont.) had a career-high 13 kills on 19 total attacks.
Dana Holger (Lino Lakes, Minn.) had a team-best 15 kills.
Kristina Eric (Jr., Sokolac, Bosnia) led the squad with 45 helpers while
Paige Boivin (Sr., Plainville, Ill.) led defensively with 22 digs.
Day two it was
Sydney Cook (Fr., Miami, Fla.) and Holger, who lead the way. Cook rang up 22 kills while Holger put down 15 with 3 solo and 2 block assists to add, defensively. Eric added her assists with 66 and Boivin led once again on the defensive side of the ball with 40 total digs.
In the last confrontation between the Sharks and Panthers this season the Sharks powered through Florida Tech at the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center in three straight sets.
Offensively, Holger and Cook led the Sharks, splintering the floor with a combined 26 kills, 14 and 12, respectively. Holger was hitting at an amazing .414 percent.
Jordan Pappas (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) added 36 helpers while Boivin led the team defensively with 11 digs.
Caitlin Donahue (Fr., Miami, Fla.) and
Rachel Woodson (Sr., Rogers Ark.) played well at the net putting together a combined ten blocks, five and five respectively.
The Panthers are coming off a 3-0 loss to the No. 6 Tampa Spartans and will face Eckerd Friday night before taking on the Sharks.
