Baseball Trounces No. 20 Franklin Pierce

Sharks dominate the Ravens 12-1.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (14-4) dominated No. 20 Franklin Pierce Ravens (10-4) Saturday night at the NSU Baseball Complex, outscoring them by 11 runs.

Zachary Westcott (So., Weston, Fla.) led the Sharks with an impressive performance on the mound, pitching six and a third innings, facing 28 at the plate, giving up five hits, striking out four batters and only giving up one run for his fifth win of the season. Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, Fla.) led the Sharks offensively, going four-for-five at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.

The Sharks drew first blood in the second inning when Ray Navarro (Sr., Miami, Fla.) rocked a hard-hit single to right field, bringing around Daniel Petitbon (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who initially thought he hit a homerun off the scoreboard in the previous at bat, but was ruled a double by the home plate umpire.

In the fourth, Petitbon showed his power once again, only this time clearing the left field wall for his third homerun of the season to extend the Sharks lead, 2-0.

Westcott continued his dominance on the mound, knocking down the Ravens one, two, three in the fifth until Franklin Pierce scored their one and only run in the sixth inning, a RBI single up the middle, plating a runner from third.

NSU answered back in extreme fashion in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five unanswered runs. The Ravens wild pitching placed a few Sharks on base, as well as plating a couple, along with two RBI singles by Asuaje and teammate Chris Morales (Jr., Miami, Fla.). The Sharks created a large deficit of seven runs, 7-1, in the inning.

The Sharks never let up and continued to apply pressure scoring five more runs in the seventh inning. Pitching proved to be a factor again for the Ravens demise, plating a couple runners off wild pitches, as well as another single to right field by Asuaje which brought around two base runners to extend the margin by to 12-1, in favor of NSU.

The seventh proved to be all that was needed for the Sharks as the game was far out of reach for the Ravens with the final inning and a half, going hitless and scoreless

The Sharks take the field once again Wednesday, March 21 in West Palm Beach, Fla. where they will take on Palm Beach Atlantic in a non-conference tilt starting at 7:00 p.m.
