Baseball Takes Road Win over Palm Beach Atlantic, 16-7

Regoli records third multiple home run game of the season.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (15-4) netted a regional victory Wednesday, as the Sharks took down the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (11-9), 16-7, at Palm Beach Gardens HS.

Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) recorded his third multiple home run game of the season. Regoli went 3-for-6 with four RBI and two runs. Ray Navarro (Sr., Miami, Fla.) went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

The Sharks got on the board first in the second inning when Brett Clements (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) hit his second home run of the season. The bomb went over left centerfield with two outs on the board and drove home Navarro. The Sharks held on to their 2-0 lead for a short time, as the Sailfish poured on five of their runs over the second and third innings.

The Sharks entered the fourth inning trailing by three runs. They would erase their deficit and build a four-run lead with seven runs. The first two batters of the frame reached base and set up Navarro’s two-RBI single through the left side. The Sharks did not let up and immediately loaded the bases for Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, Fla.), who retook the lead of for his team with a two-RBI single to left centerfield.

With two runners on base, Regoli hit his first home run of the game to left field. The homer was a sure thing right off the bat as the left fielder was forced to just watch it sail over the fence. Mauricio Rodriguez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) (1-0) entered the game with the lead and earned his first victory of the season. Over three innings pitched, Rodriguez struck out four batters while only allowing two hits.

After two scoreless innings, the Sharks posted six more runs in the seventh frame. Regoli led off the side with his ninth home run of the season. The home run went over left centerfield and placed the slugger back in the national top-five in home runs this season. The next four batters would reach base before two outs were posted on strikeouts. Asuaje picked up another two-RBI hit on a double to left centerfield. Navarro and Chris Morales (Jr., Miami, Fla.) also recorded RBI in the seventh inning.

NSU put its last run on the board in the eighth inning. Javi Sujo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) led off with a double through the left side and would score off two straight wild pitches. The Sailfish tried to rally in the ninth but could only bring two runners across the plate. In the end, the Sharks faced five pitchers in the game and scored runs off four of them.

The Sharks will return to Sunshine State Conference play this Friday against Eckerd at the NSU Baseball Complex at 6 p.m.
