Baseball Wins Battle Against Ave Maria Gyrenes, 11-3

Asuaje goes 4-for-6 in the contest.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (18-5) won a midweek matchup against the Ave Maria Gyrenes (17-24), 5-3, Wednesday at the NSU Baseball Complex.

Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) and Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, Fla.) both had standout games for NSU. Regoli hit home run number 13 and recorded two runs and two RBI. Asuaje went 4-6 with two runs, improving his season average to .472. Chris Morales (Jr., Miami, Fla.) also had a great night, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

The game was scoreless through the first four innings before Ave Maria took a 1-0 lead with a run on two hits in the fifth inning. The Sharks would not trail for long, as they posted two runs off Regoli’s home run to left field. Asuaje led off with a single to second and was advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Morales. Regoli sent him home on his 13th homer of the season.

The Gyrenes tied the game in the seventh inning with one run, but once again the Sharks would immediately take the lead. Asuaje and Morales led off the bottom of the seventh with two straight hits, with Morales’ driving home a run. After the Sharks posted two outs, Javi Sujo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) plated Morales on a single up the middle. Alex Marrero (Jr., Miami, Fla.) capped off the three-run frame with a RBI double to left centerfield.

After Ave Maria posted their final run, the Sharks ended their scoring night with their biggest inning in the eighth, scoring six runs. Five players recorded RBI’s in an inning that the Sharks only recorded five hits. Daniel Petitbon (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had the biggest hit of the inning, a two-RBI single through left side with the bases loaded.

Five Sharks had multiple hits in the game, with Brett Clements (Riverview, Fla.) going 2-for-4 and Petitbon hitting 2-for-3 with two RBI. Marrero had a standout line, hitting 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Sharks return to Sunshine State Conference action this Friday when they begin a three-game series at 6 p.m. against Barry in Miami Shores, Fla.
