FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 25 Nova Southeastern baseball team (10-2) will look to keep its momentum alive Tuesday in a midweek game against Southern New Hampshire (8-0) at the NSU Baseball Complex at 6 p.m. It is the Sharks’ last game before they start Sunshine State Conference play at Florida Tech this weekend.

The Sharks enter the game after being placed in the top-25 for the first time this season in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Coaches Poll. The ranking was made possible by NSU’s 3-0 week in which the Sharks defeated Barry (10-8) and Saint Rose (12-6; 13-1). The Sharks have now won seven of their last eight games.

Not everybody has been impressed by NSU’s strong start. College Baseball Lineup, a group that was the first to rank NSU last season, still kept NSU out of its top-30 poll. The Sharks also stayed neutral in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Regional Poll. The voters deemed the Sharks’ undefeated week not worthy of a bump ahead of North Alabama, a team that went 2-3 this past week.

The Sharks will look to keep climbing up the rankings with a win against the undefeated Penmen. The Sharks have never lost to the Penmen, holding a 3-0 all-time record. NSU will be looking to mimic last season’s undefeated record against Northeast-10 teams.

The Sharks are projected to throw freshman Roberto Baroniel (Miami, Fla.). The 6-4 pitcher who goes by the name “Bubba” has had a successful start to his freshman campaign. He holds a 3.86 ERA over 7.0 innings pitched and has struck out seven batters. Bubba has also held opposing batters to a .240 average. A successful performance in his second career start could push him into a weekend starting job through the remainder of the season.

This will be the final tune-up game before SSC play begins. The Sharks are scheduled to hit the road to play Florida Tech in a three-game series March 9-10. This past weekend, FIT lost their SSC-opening series against Florida Southern.
