BOX SCORE
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team (29-19, 11-7 SSC) held the Lynn Fighting Knights (2-39, 1-17 SSC) scoreless for the second time this weekend, jumping out to an early seven-run lead before finishing the game off in the sixth with three more tallies to give NSU a 10-0 victory in the series finale.
The Sharks wasted little time scoring, posting four runs in the opening inning Sunday.
Laura Saladrigas (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) provided the Sharks with their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to deep right center that allowed
Lorena Spaulding (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) to score. Two batters later, DeMuth brought home the Sharks second run of the game with a single up the middle to drive in
Katie Kelton (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.).
Dani Millan (So., Ventura, Calif.) garnered credit for the final two RBI of the inning for NSU. Millan slapped a single over the second baseman’s head in shallow right field to plate
Sara DeMuth (Sr., Plant City, Fla.) and
Gina Bondarenko (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) to give the Sharks a 4-0 lead after the first half inning.
NSU extended its lead to 6-0 in the second inning. Spaulding scored the first run of the inning when she raced home as Kelton was in a run down between first and second. Kelton would reach second safely after the Fighting Knights attempted to throw out Spaulding at home.
After Kelton stole third, she scored when Saladrigas hit her second sacrifice RBI of the game on a fly ball to deep right field.
In the third inning, the Sharks scored their seventh run of the game on Lynn’s third error. With
Melanie Spicola (Fr., Umatilla, Fla.) on third, Sepulveda stole second and the throw down skipped out to centerfield, allowing Spicola to score easily on the play.
The next two innings passed by scoreless before NSU struck again in the sixth. Kelton earned an RBI on a bunt single and Saladrigas registered her third RBI of the contest, as the Sharks added a trio of runs to their total, extending the lead to 10-0.
After a single to start the bottom of the sixth, NSU got the next three outs, concluding the game.
Spaulding and Kelton each scored three runs for the Sharks, with Spaulding walking twice and Kelton notching an RBI. The Sharks recorded eight hits by eight different players Sunday.
