FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 12 Nova Southeastern baseball team (28-8) will finish its nonconference schedule Tuesday at the NSU Baseball Complex, facing Florida Tech at 6 p.m.

This will be the second of two out-of-conference games against Florida Tech this season. After each team won one game during the Sunshine State Conference series in Melbourne, Fla., the Sharks won the first nonconference game on April 10, 10-5.

Daniel Petitbon (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) put forth a consistent offensive effort in the Sharks’ win, going 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI. Brett Clements (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) and Javi Sujo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) each went 2-for-4 in the game. Clements had a run and a RBI while Sujo recorded two runs and a RBI. Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) hit his 15th home run in the contest, the last homer he recorded.

After that win, the Sharks swept Palm Beach Atlantic and reached the No. 7 slot in the national rankings, their highest ranking of the season. However, this past weekend the Sharks took their first stumble of the year, losing a road series to nine-time NCAA National Champions Florida Southern. The Sharks lost two out of three games and slipped five spots in the national poll.

The Sharks are currently third in the conference behind Lynn and Tampa, the two teams that represent the opponent for NSU's next two SSC series. Tuesday's game will be the final game before a slate of contests that will make or break the Sharks' chance at winning its first SSC Championship. The Sharks will also be looking to make sure they have a winning record against the Panthers at season's end.

The Panthers will not enter the game looking to give the Sharks the reps they need. The Panthers will be looking to even the season series at 2-2, as they make one last push at a spot in the NCAA South Regional Tournament. With the Gulf South Conference and SIAC Tournament winners, alongside the SSC regular season champion, receiving automatic bids to the tournament, five at-large bids will be up for grabs at the end of the year. The bids are usually split between the SSC and the Gulf South, with one conference receiving one more bid than the other.

With four games remaining, the Panthers need a win over NSU to make their case for that extra bid. On the other hand, the Sharks will need a win to bring back any momentum they lost over the weekend.
