FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 12 Nova Southeastern baseball team (29-8) is one win away from clinching its eighth-straight 30-win season, after defeating the Florida Tech Panthers (26-20), 6-2, Tuesday at the NSU Baseball Complex.
Shane Hill (Jr., Davie, Fla.) (1-0) earned his first win as a Shark, allowing just one run in five innings pitched. It was a coming-out party for Hill, who had only pitched in two innings leading into this game. Hill allowed five hits in the contest and struck out three batters.
Mauricio Rodriguez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) earned his team-high fourth save of the year by pitching four innings of one-hit baseball. Rodriguez allowed a run in the sixth inning, but did not allow a hit through his final three shutout innings.
Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) and
Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, Fla.) each had multiple hit games. Regoli went 3-for-5 with a RBI while Asuaje went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a sacrifice fly.
The Sharks won the game early with five runs in the second inning.
Daniel Petitbon (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) started off the side with a double down the left field line and scored on a single from
Alex Marrero (Jr., Miami, Fla.). After
Brett Clements (Jr., Riverview, Fla.) moved two runners into scoring position,
Ray Navarro (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and
Blake Boyd (Jr., Jupiter, Fla.) each drove in runs.
Chris Morales, (Jr., Miami, Fla.) and Regoli wrapped up the side with back-to-back RBI singles.
After the Panthers drove in two runs in the middle innings, the Sharks scored their final run in the eighth. Navarro led off the frame with a double to right centerfield. Boyd bunted Navarro over to third base and Asuaje flew out to centerfield for the sacrifice.
The Sharks will return to action this Friday when they begin a weekend series against Lynn at the NSU Baseball Complex at 6 p.m.
