Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season With 6-3 Win Over Rollins

Sharks finish the regular season 33-13.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball team (33-13, 13-10 SSC) ended the regular season with a win Saturday, defeating the Rollins Tars (28-22, 9-15 SSC), 6-3, at the NSU Baseball Complex

Daniel Petitbon (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) went 2-for-5 in the game with a RBI. Carlos Asuaje (So., Weston, Fla.) and Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) each went 1-for-3 in the contest. Asuaje scored two runs while Regoli scored and drove in a run.

Patrick Kulick (Fr., Coral Springs, Fla.) (1-0) earned his first career win in relief. He pitched 1.2 innings without giving up a hit or a run. Nolan Houmes (Jr., Land O’ Lakes, Fla.) also pitched well in relief, allowing four hits and a run over 4.2 innings pitched. Houmes struck out four batters in the game. Zachary Westcott (So., Weston, Fla.) closed the game on a day’s rest and earned his first-career save.

The Tars jumped on the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning. On the other side, the Sharks posted a run after Alex Marrero (Jr., Miami, Fla.) hit his fifth triple of the season. Marrero advanced home during the next at bat on a wild pitch.

The Sharks tied the game in the third inning with their second triple. Asuaje reached base on a single through the right side. With two outs on the board, Regoli drove in the tying run on his first career triple to left field.

The Sharks lost their lead when the Tars scored a run in the fourth inning. NSU struggled to answer the run, ending four straight innings with a runner on third base. The Sharks broke out in the eighth and sealed the victory by scoring four runs. Ray Navarro (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Chris Morales (Jr., Miami, Fla.) earned back-to-back hits to put the tying run in scoring position. Asuaje grounded the ball to first base, but an error allowed the tying run to cross the plate with two runners remaining on base.

Nikko Echevarria (Sr., Abqaib, Saudi Arabia) drove in the go-ahead run on a groundout to second base. After the Tars intentionally walked Regoli, Javi Sujo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Petitbon stretched the Sharks’ lead with two-straight RBI singles. The Tars fought to the end and brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but never chopped into the Sharks’ three-run lead.

With the regular season schedule finished, the Sharks will now hope to receive an at large bid in the NCAA South Regional Tournament. The selection show can be viewed on NCAA.com Sunday at 10 p.m.
