No. 9 Baseball Fall to No. 2 Tampa, 10-1

Sharks will face Tampa twice Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.

BOX SCORE

TAMPA, Fla. –
The No. 9 Nova Southeastern baseball team (31-10, 11-7 SSC) dropped the first game of a weekend series against the No. 2 Tampa Spartans (38-8, 16-6 SSC), 10-1, at the Tampa Baseball Field Friday.

Areo Regoli (Sr., Homestead, Fla.) and Javi Sujo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) each went 2-for-4 and were the only Sharks with multiple hits. Sujo hit his eighth double in the contest.

After being held hitless over the first two innings, the Spartans put themselves way ahead of the Sharks with eight runs in the third frame. Tampa had nine hits in the inning, two of which were home runs. The Spartans would wrap up their scoring night with a run in the fourth and fifth innings each.

The Sharks attempted to start two-out rallies in the fourth and sixth innings, but left two runners stranded on base in each side. The Sharks put their only run on the board in the seventh inning with the help of pinch hitters. Kevin Reynolds (So., Fort Myers, Fla.) led off with a walk and advanced to third on a pinch-hit double from Nikko Echevarria (Sr. Abqaib, Saudi Arabia). Blake Boyd (Jr., Jupiter, Fla.) drove home the runner on a groundout to third.

Zachary Westcott (So., Weston, Fla.) (8-2) earned the loss in a rough outing. He allowed eight earned runs in the game and raised his ERA to almost a whole run. Despite his second loss of the season, he still stands as a candidate for Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year with a 2.23 ERA.

The Sharks will conclude their series against the Spartans on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Tampa Baseball Field.
