Volleyball Falls to Rollins

The Sharks drop a three-set match in SSC play at home.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (3-12, 0-2 SSC) suffered another Sunshine State Conference loss on their return home, this time 3-0 to the Rollins Tars (7-7, 1-2 SSC) on Friday night at the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center.

The Sharks continued to struggle offensively as they have most of the season, but there were moments of brilliance from some of the young rookies. Freshman Caitlin Donahue (Miami, Fla.) led the Sharks in kills, hitting percentage and total points. Rachel Woodson (Sr., Rogers, Ark.) who has returned to the lineup, finished second in kills and hitting percentage, while Sydney Cook (Fr., Miami, Fla.) added six points.

Despite a solid first set, the Tars dominated from the opening serve. They finished with 16 kills and blistering .438 team hitting percentage to breeze by NSU 25-17 in the first set. In the second, both teams struggled offensively, but it was Rollins that came out on top 25-15. After the extended break between sets two and three, the Sharks went toe-to-toe with the Tars with both teams hitting .250 as a team. However, despite six lead changes and 14 ties in the final set, Rollins pulled out the 26-24 win to take the match.

Rollins finished the match by outhitting NSU .263 to .107. Rollins’ outside hitter Camille Indest led all hitters in the match with 14 kills and a .478 hitting percentage.

The Sharks will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 29 hosting Florida Tech at 4 p.m. in another SSC match at the NSU Arena.
