Volleyball Returns Home for SSC Competition

Sharks return to the NSU Arena to host Rollins and Florida Tech

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team (3-11, 0-1 SSC) returns home this weekend to host the Rollins Tars and Florida Tech Panthers in Sunshine State Conference action at the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center on Friday and Saturday.

Coming off a tournament weekend at the Setter Fall Classic hosted by Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y., the Sharks managed to get back in the win column notching a pair of victories. NSU opened with a 3-0 loss against St. Mary’s (Texas), but posted back-to-back 3-1 wins over Molloy and host Pace. The weekend ended with a 3-2 loss to Franklin Pierce.

Samantha High (Jr., Naples, Fla.) posted a breakout weekend totaling 51 kills averaging 3.19 kills per set and hit blistering .370. She also added nine blocks and five service aces to help pace the team. Freshman Sydney Cook (Miami, Fla.) continued to excel averaging 3.56 kills per set and totaled 11 blocks.

Heading into the weekend, the Sharks will continue to look toward Cook and High to maintain their level of play, but will also expect senior setter Jordan Pappas (Naperville, Ill.) to continue running the offense. Last week, she improved her assist average posting just under 10 per set at the Setter Fall Classic.

With a chance to continue their momentum, the Sharks will face the Rollins Tars on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in the NSU Arena. The Tars come into the match with a 6-7 overall record and 0-2 in the SSC. Their conference losses have come against the highly touted Tampa Spartans 3-0 and Eckerd 3-1. Rollins is averaging just over 12 kills per set and are led by Camille Indest who is averaging 2.84 kills per set and hitting .284 for the season.

On Saturday, the Sharks will return to their home court hosting Florida Tech (8-4, 0-2 SSC) on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. Both the Panthers’ conference losses have also been at the hands of Tampa and Eckerd. FIT is out hitting their opposition .201 to .155 and averaging just over a kill per set more than their opponents. The Panthers are also running a well-balanced offense with nearly five players averaging 2.0 kills per set led by Marilyn Dick with 2.42.
