Swimming Set to Compete in Back-to-Back Meets

NSU and Florida Tech meet for the first time on Friday and then travel to Saint Leo Saturday.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After a two-week preparation period from the All-Florida Invitational late in September, the Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back at it this weekend with back-to-back meets against Florida Tech and Saint Leo. The Sharks will host their first home meet of the season against the Panthers on Friday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. and then head out to St. Leo, Fla. for a 1 p.m. meet on Saturday, Oct. 19 against the Lions.

The Sharks began the 2013-14 season in Gainesville at the Fourth-Annual Pinch-A-Penny All-Florida Invitational hosted by the University of Florida. Competing against a host of NCAA Division I competition and fellow SSC member Florida Southern, the men's team finished fourth with 449 points, while the women's team finished seventh with 119.

A newcomer to the men's team, Marco Aldabe (Fr., Alicante, Spain) made waves in the pool during the opening weekend by setting the first provisional qualifying time in the 200-yard backstroke. He finished seventh in the A-finals with a time of 1:51.28. On the women's side, fellow backstroker and newcomer Emma Wahlstrom (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden) emerged as one to watch this season. She finished second in the B-final of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.45 and third in the B-final of the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.43.

Both the NSU and Florida Tech programs are still relatively young programs with Florida Tech entering its third season, while the Sharks are entering their fourth. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams in regular season since both programs began. The Florida Tech men have already started this season with a win against Saint Leo, while the women have a pair of wins under their belt coming into Friday's meet against Lynn and Saint Leo. The meet is scheduled to start on Friday at 4 p.m. It will also be Breast Cancer Awareness for the Sharks' swim team so sport your pink in support.

After facing the Panthers in their first home meet of the 2013-14 season, the Sharks will immediately hit the road for an away meet against the Saint Leo Lions on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 pm.  The Lions have already faced Florida Tech this year suffering a 131-74 loss, while the Lion women's team has suffered back-to-back losses against Lynn and Florida Tech.
