Box Score
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team dropped a close affair to Florida Tech on Saturday evening, 26-24, 25-19, 25-17.
The Sharks (3-9, 0-4 SSC) came out with a great amount of momentum in the first set, taking leads midway through at 14-10 and 18-14, the latter score triggering a Panther timeout. A short FIT run gave them the lead at 21-19 and NSU was forced to burn a timeout of their own.
That led to four straight Shark points, and a 23-21 lead. The Sharks had set point at 24-23, but FIT (12-2, 3-1 SSC) scored the last three points of the frame to take it, 26-24.
In the second, the two teams split the first 16 points, but the Panthers scored the next five to make it 13-8 and never trailed again. The Sharks did cut it to two late, 20-18, the closest it had been since the early 8-8 tie. But FIT scored five of the last six points and took a 2-0 set lead with a 25-19 decision.
The third set, after NSU scored the first point, saw FIT ahead all the way until the end. The Sharks stayed within striking distance, but a five-point lead late ballooned to nine, and eventually was a 25-17 set win to five the home team the match, 3-0.
