Women’s Soccer Travels to Barry for SSC Battle

The Sharks will look to end its road trip on a high note.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0-1 SSC) will take on the Barry Buccaneers (6-3-0, 1-0-0 SSC) in Miami Shores, Fla., Tuesday Oct., 8 at 7 p.m.

The Sharks are looking for a big win on the road against their SSC rivals Barry, after coming away with a 1-1 draw against Lynn last Saturday. Against Lynn, the Sharks got out in front early on a Malin Broberg (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) goal in the 17th minute. The Fighting Knights broke through in the 66th minute, knotting the game up to the eventual final score of the double overtime match. Goalkeeper Sandra Rolon (Jr., San Juan, P.R.) finished with a career-high nine saves.

NSU's attack has been primarily played through senior forward Broberg, who has nine of the teams 16 goals this season. Dilja Olafsdottir (Sr., Reykjavik, Iceland), Elizabeth Haumschild (So., Riverview, Fla.) Andi Burchfield (Jr., Greenville, S.C.) and Sarah Keville (So., Vero Beach, Fla.) make up the other seven goals for the Sharks. NSU have relied upon its fast starts in matches, going 3-1-1 when scoring first.

The Buccaneers are entering Tuesday's match, winning two of their last five matches. However, Barry is coming off of a two-match win streak, beating Lynn, 1-0, and Florida Southern, 4-1, last week. The Buccaneers are led by Lauren Manna and Dominique Richardson, who have combined for nine goals this season. Richardson has scored a goal in each of the last two matches for Barry.

NSU will be finishing up its three-match road trip on Tuesday before they head back to Fort Lauderdale for a  three-match home stand starting Saturday.
