FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With three solid meets to start the season under their belt, the Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will open the month of November facing Sunshine State Conference foe Rollins on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Rollins heads into Saturday's meet with only one prior competition this season against SSC rival Saint Leo. The Tars' men were handed a pretty tough loss by the SLU Lions by a final score of 185-69, while the women's team fell to SLU 148-112.
The Sharks faced off with Saint Leo as well in their last meet of October on the 19
th with the men and women splitting with the Lions on the road. NSU's men lost by 12 points 136.5-124.5 while the Sharks' women defeated the SLU in their home pool by a score of 170-92.
After a rough start at the fourth annual Pinch-A-Penny All-Florida Invitational hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, the women's team blew through their next two opponents Florida Tech and Saint Leo. With an unblemished conference record of 2-0, the Sharks are hoping to continue the same momentum this Saturday against the Tars in Winter Park, Fla.
Both
Ashley Bransford (Sr., Santa Cruz, Aruba) and
Emma Lawrenz (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) emerged as the team leaders for the women's team in their last competition with both winning a pair of individual races. Bransford won both the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke events, while Lawrenz added a pair of wins in the 50- and 100-yard butterfly. The duo also paired with
Emma Wahlstrom (Fr., Stockholm, Sweden) and
Alexandra Zatylny (Sr., Quebec, Canada) to open the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay.
Coming off the All-Florida Invitational, the NSU men's team has split a pair of conference meets with a convincing win over Florida Tech at home and a 12-point loss on the road to SLU. The Sharks men are looking to get back on the winning path against the Tars on Saturday.
Despite the loss in their last outing, the distance events appeared to be the men's strong suit.
Cameron Chambers (Sr., St. Petersburg, Fla.),
Addison Cates (Jr., Port Charlotte, Fla.) and
Andrew Pittman (Fr., Plano, Texas) secured first through third respectively in the men's 1000-yard freestyle event, while
Florian Mehlan (Sr., Moers, Germany) secured first in the men's 500-yard freestyle. The NSU men are looking to build on a good performance in the distance events and combine it with a solid performance in the shorter and sprint events against the Tars this Saturday to get back on the winning track.
