Baseball Completes Second Annual NSU Baseball Golf Classic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team completed its Second Annual NSU Baseball Golf Classic, on Saturday, at the Jacaranda Golf Club.

There were 128 participants at the event, including notable alumni such as Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers, NSU Hall of Famer's, Felipe Suarez and Sonny Hansley, and Raul De Castro.

"The Second Annual NSU Baseball Golf Classic was a great event that brought many of our alumni, families and sponsors together to celebrate and support this great program," said head baseball coach Greg Brown. "I am very proud of this tournament and the support that we have received from administration, alumni and our community. The commitment to this event by the tournament committee and the volunteers is very humbling as they have all exceeded even my expectations for this event in its second year. I look for us to build on this event and make it even bigger and better next year."

The presenting sponsors at the event were Systems Furniture Services, Precision Contracting Services and the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Foundation. The food and beverage sponsors at the tournament included Chick-fil-A, Mimi's Ravioli, Dunkin' Donuts, Stephen's Distributing Company and Gatorade.

The event began with a putting contest, where the winner walked away with an iPad Mini. Other prizes included a Guy Harvey framed print, a Miguel Cabrera signed and framed jersey and golf outings at the best courses in the area.

Former NSU alumni Bobby Bodie, former Shark golfer, and Daniel Petitbon, former NSU baseball player, along with Jimbo Colonel and Louis Petitbon won the event by shooting a 17-under 54.

All the donations and proceeds from the tournament go directly to the funding of the field renovation projects, re-sodding of the infield, stadium graphics, team equipment, travel and facility expenses. In its inaugural year in 2012, the tournament helped fund the new facelift of the NSU Baseball Complex, complete with former player images and prominent sponsorship placement.
