No. 16 Baseball to Play St. Thomas Bobcats on the Road

Sharks play one on the road before traveling to Mississippi.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 16 Nova Southeastern baseball team (5-1) return to the road Tuesday, Feb. 12, to Miami Gardens, Fla. to take on St. Thomas (7-1). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

The Sharks are coming off a successful home weekend, in which they kicked off their home debut against Albany State. The Sharks swept the series against the Goldne Rams, beating them, 5-1, Friday evening before continuing their sweep in Saturday’s doubleheader, 16-7 and 10-1.

Senior Vinnie Contaldi (Jupiter, Fla.) was selected as the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, presented by the conference office and VALIC, after his standout performance this past weekend

Contaldi was nearly flawless in five innings of a victory over Albany State. Contaldi did not allow a single hit or walk en route to his second win of the season. He struck out seven batters in a game the Sharks ultimately won 16-7.

St. Thomas, a member of the Sun Conference in the NAIA, currently has a 7-1 record and is coming off a weekend sweep over Northwood. The Bobcats' only loss on the year was to SSC member Rollins College. The Tars defeated the Bobcats, 8-1, in a weekday game in Winter Park, Fla.

The Sharks have not faced the Bobcats since the 2009-10 season in which NSU defeated them on three separate occasions. The first meeting was the closest of the three games, where Alex Marrero (Sr., Miami, Fla.), as a freshman, hit a walk off single to end the game, 10-9, at the NSU Baseball Complex.  The Sharks also beat the Bobcats 5-2 and 12-3 in the ladder portion of the season.
