Losing streak is now at five games

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern baseball  team fell for the fifth straight game, and for the second time in a week to Palm Beach Atlantic, 8-1 on Tuesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The Sharks (6-6) had 10 hits against PBA starting pitcher Nic Kovacs (3-1), but were only able to plate one unearned run. After the Sailfish (10-4) scored twice in the third and once more in the following inning off Shark starter Mike Gonzalez (Sr., Miami), NSU cut it to a two-run deficit in the bottom of the fourth.

With one out, Brandon Sedell (So., Davie, Fla.) reached on a throwing error and advanced to third on a Julian Loret de Mola (So., Miami) double down the leftfield line. Sedell scored the Sharks’ only run as William Rudolph (Jr., Parkland, Fla.) lifted a sacrifice fly to straight-away centerfield.

The game stayed 3-1 until PBA scored four runs on two 2-run singles in the eighth inning. A pinch-hit home run in the ninth by Bobby Kissner provided the final margin.

Gonzalez (1-1) took the loss, giving up three runs in three-plus innings of work. Reliever Josh Glick (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) had the Sharks’ best performance on the mound, throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings.

Three NSU batters had two hits each: Carlos Asuaje (Jr., Weston, Fla.), Loret de Mola and Brett Clements (Sr., Riverview, Fla.). Besides Loret de Mola, Randolph also had a double in the loss. Asuaje was a perfect 2-for-2 on the basepaths, and is now 12-for-12 on the season in stolen bases.

The Sharks have a three-game set this weekend at the NSU Baseball Complex against Bentley, with the first game this Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. Each of the Saturday and Sunday games to wrap up the series begin at 2 p.m.
