FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla . – The Nova Southeastern baseball team looks to snap a five-game losing streak when they host Bentley for a three-day, three-game wooden bat series this weekend at the NSU Baseball Complex.
The Sharks (6-6) came out of the gates strong, winning six of their first seven games before running into No. 2 Delta State on the road and losing all three games against them. They then returned home for two games a week apart against Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 19 and Feb. 26) and fell twice more, by scores of 9-4 and 8-1, respectively.
Jose Rodriguez (Sr., Hialeah, Fla.) tops all Sharks hitters on the young season with 19 hits and a .452 batting average, while Carlos Asuaje (Jr., Weston, Fla.) has hit at a .333 clip, and is a perfect 12-for-12 on stolen base attempts. Julian Loret de Mola (So., Miami) leads the team in both power categories with two home runs and 10 RBI, and he and Rodriguez share the team lead with three doubles.
Bentley is 3-3 to start the year, with all six games so far coming on the road against SSC opponents. They lost two of three against Tampa (Feb. 1-3) and won two of three over Rollins (Feb. 16-18), including a 16-inning affair in the first game of the latter series, a 4-3 Bentley victory. Logan Gillis is the team’s leading hitter at .345, while Tom Nagy has three of the team’s four home runs, and a team-high 10 RBI. The Falcons’ leading pitcher thus far has been Jeff Croteau, who has gone 1-0 in 13 innings pitched with a 2.08 ERA.
The weekend series begins Friday, March 1 at 6 p.m, while both the Saturday and Sunday games each start at 2 p.m.
