FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern baseball team (12-7) is ready to play five games in a span of five days this week, the most games in a five-day span all season for NSU.
The Sharks take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans (5-3) Tuesday, March 12, and the Adelphi Panthers (3-3-1) the following day at the NSU Baseball Complex. NSU will then hit the road to take on the Eckerd Tritons (10-10, 0-6 SSC) for a three-game conference series, the first for the Sharks this season, on Friday and Saturday, in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Sharks enter the week winning six out of the last seven games, with their last loss coming March 5, against Southern New Hampshire, 14-12. NSU has most recently come off a convincing 4-1 victory over Caldwell, in Santaluces, Fla.
St. Thomas Aquinas
The Spartans will enter Tuesday’s contest against the Sharks winning two of the last four, most recently beating American International, 5-4, on Monday, March 11.
Aquinas has been led by the bat of Nicholas Barbalato, who is batting .360, has five RBI and has scored eight runs this season. Starting pitcher Joe DePool (2-0) has pitched 18 innings for the Spartans, striking out 13 batters and has only allowed 10 hits and four earned runs this season.
Adelphi
The Panthers will be entering Wednesday’s contest with the Sharks winning only one of its last five, after winning its first two games of the season. Adelphi dropped their latest game against Molloy, 13-4, on Monday and recently lost to St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-6. The Panthers take on Barry Tuesday, March 12.
Richard Mejia leads the team with a .364 batting average and is second on the team in RBI, with six.
Eckerd
The Tritons have won five of its last eight games going into this weekend’s series against the Sharks. Eckerd will play in its third Sunshine State series of the season, against NSU. The Tritons were swept by Florida Tech last month and dropped another three against Florida Southern last weekend. The Tritons play Tiffin University, Tuesday, March 12.
Chris Hanson has been the big bat for Eckerd, hitting four home runs, the second most in the conference, and 14 RBI.
The first pitch against St. Thomas Aquinas is set for 6 p.m.
