Busy Monday for NSU Athletics

NSU will have three home events, plus the start of a road men’s golf tournament.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Monday is slated to be a busy day for the Sharks, as three teams will compete in home events and one begins a tournament on the road.

The women’s basketball team will host Delta State in the biggest game in program history. The game serves as the NCAA South Region Championship game, with the winner getting a spot in the Elite Eight in San Antonio, Texas. Delta State enters the game after defeating North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville, and the Sharks will need their fans in full force in the Shark Tank.

Once again, Shark fans wearing Shark gear and carrying a Shark Card will get in free to the NCAA tournament game. Earlier in the day, there will be a pep rally held in the pit of the Don Taft University Center from noon to 1 p.m. Fans can come out, shoot hoops and win prizes. Right before the game, NSU will host a tailgate party in the Shark Circle outside of the Don Taft University Center. The party starts at 6 p.m. and more prizes will be given away.

NSU fans have come out strong in support of the Sharks in this tournament, creating a factor that has helped NSU go up by double digits early in the first two rounds. This will be the final time Shark fans can come out in support of NSU basketball at home, so make it count!

On the other side of campus at the NSU Baseball Complex, the Sharks will take on the Franklin Pierce Ravens at 3:45 p.m. (a new first-pitch time, changed on Sunday). The Sharks are fresh off their Sunshine State Conference series debut on the road against Eckerd. The Sharks were down Friday night, but won the series by scoring over 30 runs in a doubleheader. The Sharks will be looking to carry momentum into a weekend series against Barry at home, which begins Friday at 6 p.m.

Across University Drive, the NSU tennis team will return to the court after a week away from competition. The Sharks will host NCAA Division I Rutgers at the NSU Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. The Sharks will be looking to get their first D-I win of the season and will follow their match with California (Pa.) Tuesday at 1 p.m. Fans coming out to support the NSU tennis team will have plenty of time to skip over to the NSU Baseball Complex or the NSU Arena for more Shark action.

Away from campus, the No. 1 Nova Southeastern men's golf team will be on the road in Eatonton, Ga. to compete in the Bobcat Invitational at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee.

The Sharks will have a tough test, as the Bobcat Invitational will feature seven top-10 teams in Division II, including a handful of Sunshine State Conference rivals, No. 2 Barry, No. 5 Florida Southern, No. 6 USC Aiken, No. 7 North Alabama, No. 8 Columbus State and No. 10 Lynn. Last season, NSU finished second overall out of 17 teams, shooting +3 (283-274-286—843).
