Baseball Tops Franklin Pierce, 7-4

Sharks take three-game winning streak into the weekend against Barry.

BOX SCORE

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
– The Nova Southeastern baseball team (17-8, 2-1 SSC) won its third game in a row beating the Franklin Pierce Ravens (9-8), 7-4, on Monday at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The Sharks were led by the bats of Eric Acevedo (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Kevin Reynolds (Jr., Ft. Myers, Fla.), who each had game changing three-run home runs in the second and fifth inning respectively.

Tyler Redding (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) (3-0) had another solid outing on the mound for the Sharks, picking up his third win of the season.

The Sharks played from behind early on, when the Ravens’ Nick LaCroix hit a sacrifice fly into centerfield to allow the runner on third to come across for the first run of the game.

After a quiet first inning from NSU, the Sharks got it going in the second, after Alex Marrero (Sr., Miami, Fla.) was hit by a pitch then immediately stole second, before advancing to third on a wild pitch. It was then, after a Michael Melendez (So., Miramar, Fla.) walk, that set up the Acevedo three-run homer to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead.

The Ravens quietly battled back, bringing in a run in the third and fifth innings to tie the game up.

In the bottom of the fifth Angel Navarro (So., Miami Lakes, Fla.) led off the inning with a standup double into right field. A few batters later Brandon Sedell (So., Davie, Fla.) was walked, which was immediately followed by Reynolds’ first home run of the season, a three-run homer, to give NSU the lead for good, 6-3.

Franklin Pierce tacked on one more run in the eighth before Kenny Miranda (So., Loxahatchee, Fla.) came in to close out game in the final 1.1 innings, to earn his first save of the season.

The Sharks final run came in the bottom of the eighth on a Melendez double into left center, bringing home Reynolds easily from second.

The Sharks will now prepare for its first Sunshine State Conference home series of the season, as they take on the Barry Buccaneers, Friday, March 22, starting at 6 p.m., at the NSU Baseball Complex.
