FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
– Shelby Talon (Fr., Boynton Beach, Fla.) crushed a walk-off three-run home run to dead center with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Nova Southeastern softball team (13-13, 2-5 SSC) a big conference win over the Eckerd Tritons (12-14, 0-4 SSC), 5-2 on Friday at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.

Chrissy Tabulov (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) started things off in the eighth with a two-out single up the middle, which put the Tritons on their heels. Elizabeth Spring (Fr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) then got her first hit in her collegiate career, a single to left field. That allowed Talon to come to the plate and hit her second career home run to win the game for the Sharks in stunning fashion.

Sharks ace Jennie Von Doellen (Jr., Hudson Bay, Canada) pitched another gem to move to 11-9 on the season. She struck out 11 Triton batters while pitching all eight innings, bringing her strikeout total to 120 on the year. Von Doellen allowed only five hits and two runs on the evening.

Samira Tanaka (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil), Laura Saladrigas (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) and Talon each went 2-for-4 on the night to lead all hitters for NSU.

The game got going in the second inning, after a three-up, three-down first from both teams. Saladrigas doubled to left center field to lead off the home half. Erika Garcia (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) kept her hot hitting going with a single into left field, advancing Saladrigas to third. It was Tabulov's sacrifice fly to center field that brought Saladrigas home for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Talon was able to hit the ball up the middle to bring Garcia home from second.

After a quiet three innings from both teams, the Tritons were able to strike back in the sixth, scoring two runs of their own to tie the game at 2-2. The Tritons’ inning was highlighted by a Brittany Mitchell triple, which brought Kaycie Duncan home all the way from first.

Both teams were without a hit in the seventh inning, which sent the game into extra innings. Von Doellen took care of business in the top of the eighth, retiring the Tritons three up and three down to set up the walk-off.

The Sharks will look to ride the momentum heading into Saturday's doubleheader with the Tritons, with the first pitch of game one set for 1 p.m
