LAKELAND, Fla.
– The Nova Southeastern softball team (21-23, 6-15 SSC) dropped two games to the Florida Southern Mocs (15-26, 6-12 SSC) Saturday, losing two tightly contested games, 2-0 in the first and 3-2 in the latter, at Barnett Field in Lakeland, Fla.

Game One
After the first two innings saw just one hit combined, Florida Southern scored both of its runs on one swing of the bat, a two-run triple to right centerfield from Dayna Hunn to give the Mocs the insurmountable 2-0 lead.

Jennie Von Doellen (Jr., Hudson Bay, Canada) (14-15) had a solid pitching performance despite the loss. Von Doellen struck out two batters, allowing just five hits on the day.

Florida Southern pitcher Lauren Wolfe had a strong game for the Mocs. Wolfe allowed only two hits and struck out five Shark batters while walking six in a complete game shutout.

With the loss NSU’s eight game winning streak was snapped, marking the first loss for the team since March 23.

Game Two
The Sharks started game two much stronger, getting on the board in the top of the first, getting two quick hits including a Laura Saladrigas (Sr., Hollywood, Fla.) single up the middle, scoring Lorena Spaulding (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) from second.

The Mocs responded in the next half inning, scoring two unearned runs to take a slim 2-1 lead.

Erika Garcia (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) was able to tie the game up in the fourth on a solo home run, her second of the season, over the fence in right center, making the score 2-2.

The Mocs took a late lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Kelliann Connors single up the left side, bringing in Leah Pemberton from third.

The Sharks couldn’t get anything going in the seventh, dropping the second game of the doubleheader.

Garcia pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and just one earned run.

NSU will look to get back on track at the AD Griffin Sports Complex, Wednesday, April 17, starting at 5 p.m. against Palm Beach Atlantic.
